A bit of egg history

The theory of the humors produces a myth that persists to today: eggs as aphrodisiac. In The Secret Miracles of Nature, published in 1658, Levinus Lemnius explains that eggs, like certain other “meats of good juice,” have a tendency to “stir up venery, and breed seed for generation.”
